In Their Own Story

The morning sun cast long shadows over the carrier deck as the pilot climbed into the cockpit of a lone RF-4E Phantom II. His call sign was Sighthound. His orders were simple: find the Aegir Fleet, mark its position, and get out alive. For most, this would be a one-way ticket—but he had a family waiting back home. As he broke through the cloud layer, the sea below glittered like a field of diamonds. Then he saw them: the massive silhouettes of warships, their wakes cutting white lines across the blue. He transmitted the coordinates, feeling the weight of the entire war on his shoulders. The strike package would arrive in minutes. He just had to survive that long.
