ISAF

From the ashes of invasion, a coalition rose to reclaim the sky.

ISAF

The Independent State Allied Forces (ISAF) is a multinational military coalition forged in desperation during the Continental War on the continent of Usea. But unity alone couldn't stop Erusea's armored columns and air fleets. ISAF was battered, pushed back, and forced into a humiliating retreat to the island of North Point, its last toehold. There, in the shadow of defeat, the coalition rebuilt, rearmed, and—against all odds—launched a counteroffensive that would claw back the continent mile by mile, culminating in the destruction of the superweapon Megalith and Erusea's surrender in 2005.

Lore & Background

The coalition was a patchwork of desperate nations: North Point's navy, San Salvacion's ground troops, and the scattered remnants of air forces from a dozen conquered states. They pooled their broken squadrons, shared what fuel and ammunition they had, and placed their hopes under a single flag. But the early war was a slaughter. Key territories fell, entire air wings were wiped out, and ISAF's command was forced to flee to North Point—a tiny island that became both a fortress and a coffin waiting to be sealed. The tide turned not with a grand strategy, but with a single pilot. Mobius 1, callsign unknown, face unseen, appeared in the skies like a ghost. His kill count climbed faster than the Erusean propaganda machine could spin. Under ISAF's banner, he dismantled enemy air supremacy piece by piece, leading operations that shattered Stonehenge's railgun network and finally breached the fortress of Megalith. When the last Erusean flag fell in 2005, ISAF had not just won a war—it had proven that a coalition of the desperate could outfight an empire of the bold.

In Their Own Story

The radio crackled with static as the flight of four F-15s screamed over the ocean, their wingtips glinting in the fading sun. "Mobius 1, this is AWACS Sky Eye. Enemy radar is lighting up—Stonehenge is tracking you. Break off or you'll be dust." The pilot in the lead aircraft, callsign Mobius 1, said nothing. He banked hard, diving low over the waves as a massive railgun round tore through the air where he'd been. Behind him, his wingmen followed, their trust absolute. This was the ISAF way: outnumbered, outgunned, but never outflown. In the cockpit, Mobius 1's gloved hand tightened on the throttle. The battle for Usea would be won here, one pass at a time—and if he had to carve a path through every Erusean squadron, so be it.

Reader's Guide

ISAF is the player's allied faction in Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies. Its primary goal is to repel the Erusean invasion and restore peace to the Usean continent. The coalition includes numerous member states, with North Point serving as its capital-in-exile after the mainland fell. ISAF's military structure integrates air, naval, and ground forces from multiple nations, but its air force is the most prominent, featuring aircraft like the F-22A Raptor, Su-37, and F-15 S/MTD. Key personnel include AWACS Sky Eye, who provides tactical coordination, and the silent protagonist Mobius 1, whose actions become legendary. Throughout the war, ISAF transitions from a defensive stance to a full-scale counteroffensive, liberating occupied territories and destroying Erusean superweapons. The coalition's role is central to the narrative, representing hope and unity against overwhelming odds.
